LA to Vegas. No rules. No set route. No support. Just the road, the heat, and the drive to keep moving.
Having closed out the challenge as part of a team back in 2024, for The Speed Project 2025, RunLimited's Jonty Brown went solo. 340 miles through desert terrain, running in support of Breakthrough T1D, a non-profit organisation working to improve the lives of those with type 1 diabetes.
And as a type 1 diabetic himself, the stakes for Jonty were high. But so was the purpose.
“I didn’t take this race on lightly, I knew the risks, knew it would be hard, and I am beyond proud of myself for pushing the limits, getting through it, and showing other Type 1 sufferers out there what it’s possible to achieve with this condition.”
The challenge was to get from point A to point B entirely on-foot, with no set track and no help outside of his immediate crew.
Think 66 hours of running through day and night, paired with average temperatures of 31 degrees and an RV as home base. Hard going? Yes. But a tight team - Luke, Riz, Adrian, Ben - and gear that stayed with him every mile helped get him to the finish.
Taking those final steps with the ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign overhead, Jonty became the first type 1 diabetic to complete The Speed Project solo.
