Recognised for its natural beauty and rich culture, this is a city where outdoor pursuits and urban adventures go hand-in-hand.

Here’s our top picks.

07:00am: Maiden’s Cove Tidal Pool

Under the watchful eye of Lion's Head and the 12 Apostles, Maiden’s Cove is an ideal swimming spot. The locals’ tip is to head over early in the morning before the masses arrive. This way, you'll get the area nearly, or entirely, all to yourself. Warm sun on your skin as you float across the water's surface, the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean stretched out before you, discussing what plans lay ahead for the rest of the day.

11:00am: Pauline’s Coffee Shop

A favourite amongst Sea Point locals, enjoy a well-deserved post-swim refuel at this speciality coffee shop known for its high-quality produce and relaxed atmosphere. Head across the seafront by taxi, and you'll land at the cafe within 10 to 15 minutes. Take this opportunity to catch up on some laptop work or read a few pages of your favourite book. What to buy? Try the fresh watermelon juice and banana bread.

02:00pm: Lion’s Head Mountain

Now reenergised, grab your hiking shoes and put aside a few hours to scale the short yet rewarding Lion’s Head trail. With the relatively more famous Tabletop Mountain as its neighbour, opting for the Lion’s hike instead brings with it plenty of positives. Tried and tested by us, this hike has fewer crowds, making the walk to the top more enjoyable at your own pace. And it’s not just about the journey, because what you see when you reach the summit makes it all the more worthwhile. Expect a 360 of the city and a bird's-eye view of Tabletop Mountain.

06:00pm: Camps Bay’ Hidden Location

The evening is beginning to creep in, so it’s time to head over to The Rock for sundowners. You may be wondering: what is ‘The Rock’? It’s a relatively hidden location, known by locals as an ideal place to watch the sun set over Camps Bay, clinking bottles with friends after a day of adventure. Find it by taking a taxi to the residential streets below Lion’s Head, then walk along Ocean View Road until you reach the natural boulder formation. Climb your rock of choice, crack open a cold one, and take in the fiery sunset over the Atlantic.
